Engineering and Construction. The engineering and construction of the Rolex Learning Center is highly experimental and innovative. For the 3-dimensional curved concrete shells, SANAA worked with structural engineer, SAPS, to find the shapes with the least bending stresses by making computer simulations.

This vast single-storey slab, designed by the now ubiquitous Japanese practice SANAA, is the focal point of the prestigious Swiss university's campus, a social hub for its 7,000 students that contains the library, a wall-less auditorium and learning labs as well as a restaurant and cafe. Mostly though it's acres of open space.

The Rolex Learning Center was completed by the Japanese architecture firm Sanaa, which is an acronym for Sejima and Nishizawa and Associates. The firm was founded in 1995 by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, who were awarded the Pritzker Prize in 2010. The Pritzker Prize is the highest honor one can receive in the world of architecture.
